The Tampa Bay Rowdies turn their full focus back to the USL Championship after their participation in the 2022 US Open Cup came to an end on Wednesday via a 2-1 loss away to Orlando City SC in front of a passionate group of travelling fans (including your dear writer.) Despite the result, head coach Neill Collins found the positives in his side’s play.

“I’m proud of them. I’m proud of the fact that we played the way we wanted to play at a very high level in a good environment. The standard has been set over the last two, three years. They know that it’s on to the next one. We set those standards ourselves. They set them in the locker room. This will be a tough one because when you play as well as that you want to win, but for me I’d just be taking the confidence that when we play that way we’re a good team and we’re a hard team to play against…That’s where I’d be taking that view that Saturday can’t come quick enough. Let’s try and do it again.”

Don’t I Know You? Saturday’s game is a double reunion for a pair of on-loan players: Jordan Adebayo-Smith, tied for the Baby Bulls scoring lead with 1 goal, on loan from Tampa Bay and Sir Ulrich von-Jake-LaCava-stein, who played for Red Bulls Juniors the last 2 seasons – notching 11 goals in total – before being signed by the MLS parent team and subsequently loaned to the Rowdies, where he currently leads the club with 3 goals on the season.

Take The Long Way Home This match is the 2nd away game in 4 days for Tampa Bay and the midpoint of a 4 games in 11 days stretch. Following this fixture, the Rowdies travel to Memphis to face 901 FC next Wednesday before welcoming Landon Donovan and San Diego Loyal FC to Al Lang on Saturday, April 30th.

Don’t Let The Door Hit Ya… This is the 13th time the two clubs have faced each other, including 1 playoff match, and barring a drastic change in form for the Crimson Calves, the last time that Tampa Bay will make the trek to historic Montclair State University Soccer Park as the opponents are set to move to MlS nEXt PRo for the 2023 season. Tampa Bay leads the overall series 6-4-2, but have split the games played in the Garden State 3-3-0.

No Better Time Than Here, No Better Time Then Now Despite leading the club & setting a career high in goals with 21 last season, Rowdies captain Sebastian Guenzatti is still hunting for his first of the current season. El Capitan remains 2nd on the Rowdies all-time scoring list, just 3 goals away from pushing past Georgi Hristov. With New York sitting second bottom of the Eastern Conference & owning the second worst goal difference in the entire league at -8, this match would be an ideal time for the kid from Queens to make some progress towards, and possible break, that record.
